Background

Building Motivation and Shared Responsibility for Teaching Excellence

Teaching excellence is shaped by the people, relationships and institutional environment in which teaching takes place. While individual commitment and motivation are essential, sustainable improvement requires opportunities for shared learning, collaboration and collective responsibility.

The International Institutional PROFFORMANCE Ambassador (IPA) Network brings together higher education professionals who are interested in contributing to this process within their institutions. As IPAs, participants can act as connectors between colleagues, institutional priorities and the wider PROFFORMANCE community, helping to create opportunities for dialogue, peer learning and development.

The 2026 Joint Assessment provided IPA institutions with a practical opportunity to engage teachers and students in reflecting on course design and teaching practices. More importantly, the experience highlighted the different conditions that can support or hinder participation: What motivates colleagues to engage? How can different perspectives be brought together? How can development become relevant and meaningful for teachers, students and institutional leaders?

The IPA On-site Meetup in Budapest focuses on these questions.

The meetup creates a space for IPAs to explore how motivation can be built and sustained, how ownership can be strengthened, and how responsibility for teaching excellence can be shared among different stakeholders. Through peer exchange and practical, collaborative activities, participants will reflect on their own institutional contexts and develop ideas that can be adapted to their everyday work.

The focus is therefore not on creating another layer of monitoring or assessment, but on exploring how people can be encouraged and enabled to take an active role in improving teaching and learning.

The meetup aims to strengthen the IPA community as a space where participants can learn from one another, exchange practical approaches and collectively explore how to turn individual motivation into shared responsibility for teaching excellence.
